Makaton uses speech, signs and symbols to help people communicate. This is a practice companion with official learning links. Our camera controls the buttons; it does not check your signing.

How do I play with my hand?
Ask a grown-up to turn on Hand controls and allow the camera. Show your palm, then point at a game button. Hold still while the ring fills, or pinch to choose. Use two fingers to move the page. You can stop the camera at any time.
Stop hand controls while you practise a Makaton sign, so your practice movements do not press game buttons. Then turn them on again if you like.
For a keyboard, press Tab to move between buttons and Enter or Space to choose. The big buttons also work with a mouse or touch.

What are we practising?
This independent Skylock Sisters activity links to five official UK Makaton “Sign of the Week” demonstrations. Watch and practise one word at a time with your child. Say the word as you model it, following the official demonstration. Children can participate in the way that works for them; speech or signing is never required to play.
Choose useful words with the people who know your child or friend. The five words here are a themed taster, not the Core Vocabulary teaching sequence. For teaching and feedback, use The Makaton Charity’s guidance and training options.
Does the camera judge Makaton signs?
No. It only moves the game pointer and selects buttons. It cannot judge a sign, expression, two-handed movement or someone’s communication. Stars reward choosing words and considering a friend’s needs. A “practised” tick is the player’s own check-in, not an assessment.
Camera use is optional and starts only after the grown-up chooses it and allows access. The shared Hand controls process pictures on the device; pictures are not recorded or uploaded and the microphone stays off. Stop, Escape or leaving the page stops the camera.
Which Makaton resources does this use?
Demonstrations open on The Makaton Charity’s website; no Makaton sign drawings, symbols or videos are copied here. Those external pages have their own media and privacy arrangements. There are no embedded third-party players on this page.
